Case study: enhancing slot game performance in Latin America for Trifecta Gaming

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Trifecta Gaming, founded in Malta in 2023, has already become widely known for its slot games like Plague 1346, Scaraboosh, Sugardaddy, and Zodiac Odyssey. Established by a team of seasoned iGaming experts, the company is playing to win, stating on their site that they aspire “to provide the highest quality slots, interactive games and mini games to the industry.” And indeed, they’re winning players over with a can’t-lose blend of captivating artistry and gameplay originality.

As they’ve entered more and more markets however, they’ve found that crowdsourced testing is key to maintaining their high standards.

The problem

In 2024, as the company expanded into key Latin American markets, players in Brazil, Argentina, Peru, and Colombia began experiencing performance issues.

Users encountered latency problems, slow load times, and disruptive error messages like “Error 101,” “500 Server Error,” and “Error 604.” While these issues were traced back to potential limitations with their Dublin-based servers, the need for a precise, actionable diagnosis was evident.

Slots latency and load time issues are a common in the iGaming industry, especially in emerging markets, where gameplay may be on the other side of the world from the servers and development teams. Getting boots on the ground in the region is the best way to troubleshoot.

The solution

To pinpoint the root causes of these challenges, Trifecta Gaming sought out TESTA to do crowdsourced testing across Latin America. TESTA’s role was to identify performance bottlenecks under real-world conditions, providing Trifecta with clear insights into the issues.

Real-world testing

Crowd sourced testers were activated in each of the four countries and given the following instructions:

  • Clear cache before each session
  • Load the game URL and record load times
  • Execute multiple manual gameplay tests
  • Extract detailed technical logs
  • Repeat tests during both peak and off-peak hours

Region by region analysis

Test results were all video recorded and sent back to Test Managers for analysis.

Brazil

Persistent “500 Server Error” and frequent “Error 101” interruptions pointed to urgent server configuration issues and the need for enhanced geographical server support.

Argentina

Slow load times and recurring “Error 101” errors suggested deficiencies in content delivery and resource optimization, calling for backend improvements and CDN adjustments.

Peru

Although gameplay started smoothly, recurring errors indicated challenges with session management and data integrity, highlighting the need for a comprehensive backend audit.

Colombia

The occurrence of “Error 604” messages and intermittent game freezes raised concerns regarding server resource allocation and scaling, suggesting that upgrades in server capacity might be required.

Trifecta leveraged the test data to guide targeted improvements across its server configurations, backend systems, and content delivery processes, taking full ownership of the solutions.

The business impact

By using TESTA’s insights as a roadmap, Trifecta Gaming implemented the necessary improvements to resolve the identified performance issues. The client-driven enhancements led to:

Enhanced stability and speed

Fewer errors and faster load times created a smoother gaming experience for players in Latin America.

Increased user engagement

As the issues were resolved, improved game performance contributed to higher user engagement and retention rates.

Validation of testing approach

David Flood, COO of Trifecta Gaming, commented:

Trifecta’s fast improvements in game performance show the value of crowdsourced testing. Their proactive approach resolved immediate issues and set benchmarks for their own excellence in user experience—a useful thing to have in a crowded and competitive market.

Conclusion

TESTA’s work with Trifecta demonstrates how leveraging precise testing insights can empower clients to address performance challenges proactively, ensuring a superior user experience and strengthening their competitive edge in any iGaming market.
